I create sterling silver jewelry with mitsuro hikime wax, a type of sculpting wax used in ancient Japan. First, I mix pine resin, bees wax, and paraffin to create the wax, which I then pull to create organic shapes and textures. The process is very fluid and meditational, as the wax cools quickly. The beauty of natural elements such as flowers, leaves, and waves is evident in the pulled wax, which I then cast into silver in my Portland, OR studio.
